本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Dear members and friends,
In recent years, the GTA has become the major destination to settle
down for Chinese new immigrants like ourselves. In fact, the Chinese
population across Canada has grown in a respectful rate not seen in
the history. However, if we look at the three levels of government
from Ontario point of view, we have yet found a Chinese representation
with mainland background. We all want our voices heard and interests
protected in the Canadian political landscape. We want to be a player
in the governance of our community and beyond.
The good news is the milestone has been set. Thomas (Tao) Qu, our
Chair of the Board of Directors and past President of CPAC, has
officially
declared his candidacy on April 22, 2003 to run for Counciller in
Markham
City Council (please feel free to click the following link to catch a
glimpse
of Mr. Thomas Qu at his Official Launch for running for Markham Ward 6
Councillor. www.torontotv.org, please click again on torontotv.org. The
video is on until April 28 ) . We are delighted that the historical
record
is
being set by a member of our own. Mr. Qu's campaign is significant in
many aspects. He represents the new generation of Chinese immigrants
to Canada. He started his endeavor in this country a decade ago like
many
of us. His image and success will profoundly change the Chinese
community
among other peoples and signal a new era of political participation by
Chinese Canadians.
Thomas Qu has been instrumental in helping build CPAC today. He is
also a well known community activist and leader for many years.
As a Senior nuclear engineer (Auditor/Assessor), he has a family of
two lovely children and a wife to complete her law degree imminently.
His contribution to the local community has been well recognized. His
compassion to strengthen the social well being of our society is well
publicized.
Let us hope that Mr. Qu's campaign is a successful one. Let us give
our wholehearted support to his effort by any way we can. Let us help
him help us!
