We are just 3 days before the federal elections. In the beginning of this week Sponsor Your Parents sent a list of questions to all candidates of four big parties asking for their support. Up to date we have received many supportive letters from the Conservative and NDP candidates. As well we received an official letter of support in name of the Conservative party. Our issue is also mentioned in the NDP’s platform. Unfortunately we haven’t received any official letter of support from the Liberal party while only few Liberal candidates responded to our letter, but mostly preferred to praise efforts of Mr. Volpe, which, as we know, are not enough to resolve the backlog.
You can see all the answers of candidates and try to locate candidates from your riding at http://www.sponsoryourparents.ca/elections.htm. In addition you can find the list of MPs and candidates who have supported us in our activities at http://www.sponsoryourparents.ca/acknow.htm and the list of MPs who presented our petition to the House of Commons (and those who refused to do it) at http://sponsoryourparents.ca/your_mp.htm.
Please review these lists. You can consider position of candidates in regards to sponsoring parents as one of factors in your vote decision. We need to have more supporters of parental sponsorship in the Parliament. Even if some candidates “forget” their promises once they are elected as MPs, Sponsor Your Parents will be able to apply much more political pressure having letters of support signed by those MPs before the elections.
We hope that the above information will help you to make your vote decision on January 23. Your vote is important!
At the present time, we also encourage more people to join the class action lawsuit. See more details at http://www.sponsoryourparents.ca/lawsuit.htm.
