The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery would like to invite you to a virtual roundtable discussion to obtain your input about consumer protection measures related to new home purchase agreements and price escalations, including:
· changes to arbitration requirements,
· a cooling-off period for purchases of new freehold homes, and
· a requirement that buyers receive legal advice on their purchase agreements for new homes The consultation period regarding these topics will end on August 13, 2023.
Consultation paper on these issues and proposals were recently posted on the Ontario Regulatory Registry for public comment. We have attached copies of the consultation papers for ease of reference.
Invitation to Participate in Online Discussion:
Please let us know if you are available on July 20, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM to attend an online discussion (a phone-in option will also be available).
If you plan to participate in this online discussion, please respond by no later than July 11, 2023 to NewHomes@ontario.ca.
We would appreciate if you would suggest any groups/organizations of people who may be interested in the discussion so we can extend to them the invitation to provide feedback. Should you wish to suggest other stakeholders that we should approach for feedback, please let us know by July 11, 2022.
We will provide you with additional information about how to participate once you have confirmed your availability.
